Fellow Wisuans
It is an honour for me to address you this day, the first of January 2019. It is exactly four months since my executive and I took office in Njap village during the 39th WISU annual convention. We thank you for this opportunity which you have given us to take the Wimbum students and the Wimbum community to another pedestal in development. We will work hand in gloves with all the stake holders of our community to make sure the ideals as stated in our much respected constitution is attained progressively with time.
Last year was a very difficult year for the union, we had a lot of challenges partly due the current crisis and on the other hand some internal leadership challenges. We organised a convention amidst serious controversies from some elites of Njap who wanted the annual convention annulled, this made the turn out to be lower than expected, but that notwithstanding, the convention was still very successful as we manage to carry out a free and fair elections putting me at the head of the union for the next 2 years and for adopting our amended constitution.
We want to thank all the elites that assisted us this year both morally and financially. We start with HRH the Fon of Njap village for his stewardship during the 39th annual convention. We equally want to thank Mrs Kwefi Blessing our own sister for sponsoring our Unity football cup. We cannot forget the Njap community for their hospitality and love they showed to us during our one week stay in Njap. Finally we thank all of you who managed to make it to the convention amidst all difficulties.
Since we took office, our prerogative has been to bring back the hope our people had in the union, a hope for a better and more united Wimbum community. To do this we need transparency and accountability in the union, that’s why we have opened a bank account with the Ndu branch of the Bamenda Police Credit Union with the account No: NDU 1504 to manage all the finances of the union.
We have also designed a website for the union to manage all registration and payment of membership fee with the temporal url of http://wisu.mywebcommunity.org. The website will also enable our members and sponsors all over the world to better follow up our activities.
Our constitution as amended and adopted in 2018 during the convention has been printed in a good number of copies. Copies are available at the level of branch presidents, get a copy so that you can be conscious of the role we all have to play to keep our union moving ahead.
At the end the 39th annual convention in Njap, we decided to celebrate the 40th annual convention in Binka village at the request of the Binka branch executive. I constituted a delegation that went to the Binka palace to inform HRH the Fon of Binka and the elites of our coming and our activities which the Fon was so delighted and assured us he will make everything possible for us to have a successful convention come August 2019 in his village.
We also scheduled an enlarged executive meeting comprising my executive, branch executives, committee heads, patrons and elites in Binka to take place in December 29, 2018 to plan for the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the union. But due to the current crisis leading to serious mobility problems we decided to hold the meeting in Bamenda on the same day. The meeting was massively attended with delegates from most of the active branches. The committees necessary for the organisation of the 40th anniversary celebration was put in place and are already at work hoping things will return to normalcy before the annual convention period.
We have also created a committee dubbed the Debts-recovery committee charged with the task of recovering all the finances of the union in private pockets using all legal means. The executive will give them all information necessary to accomplish their task.
Our main 40th anniversary project will be to create a library and multimedia centre equipped with conventional books in all subjects in the primary, secondary and higher secondary schools, past questions to major exams, higher institution brochures, Wimbum books, computers and a photocopier. The funds generated from the centre will be used to run and maintain the centre. This project will be jointly realised by WISU and the community. We are counting on your support as we look forward to starting the project. We will soon launch operation “one Wisuan one book” for our libraries.
I would like to ask for the support from all of you because I am sure that our union cannot run without any one of you. On behalf of the Student Union, I will like to welcome all new members and hope with your participation, our Student Union will shine even brighter. I will also thank the all the members who have devoted themselves to the progress of the Union.
Lastly, as the 16th president of WISU, I promise to work hard to ensure the benefit of all members.
Happy and Prosperous New Year 2019
Long live WISU
God bless you
